I was reading over the history for the local Autocross earlier, and found some cool stuff out. Apparently Carroll Shelby, Roger Penske, Briggs Cunningham, Dick Thompson, Bob Holbert, and Denise McCluggage all raced here in the 1950s and 1960s. For a small town, that’s pretty remarkable. Penske actually passed his SCCA driver’s test here, and the engine on his Corvette blew shortly after his test.
You’re gonna learn more about our history here with autocross in the coming days and weeks with the blog, but I figured I’d just share this interesting tidbit with you guys.
